I Profess: The Graphic Design Manifesto

Chris Corneal is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Michigan State University. At MSU, he currently serves as the Area Head of Graphic Design within the Department of Art and Art History, Faculty Advisor for the student group The Design Center, Director of Internships, and Director of Digital Art Facilities.

Prior to receiving his Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at The University of Memphis, Chris Corneal worked professionally as a graphic designer. While with Saybrook Advertising, Chris achieved the rank of Art Director. In addition to his professional duties, Chris also served as Director of Publications for the Ad2 Club of the American Advertising Federation of Lexington, KY.

Chris’ print work can currently be seen in Adversary: A Traveling Exhibition (of) Contesting Graphic Design which has been exhibiting nationally for the last three years. In addition to working in print media, Chris’ other research concerns the new media of digital video. His most recent contribution was made on Normal to Oily, a live action digital short directed by Mike Schmidt, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at The University of Memphis.


Maya Drozdz is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA, where she has been instrumental in developing both her program and the academic vision of the college. She is also a founding partner in VisuaLingual, a Cambridge-based multi-disciplinary graphic design studio.

Maya previously taught at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, IN and at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI. Prior to teaching, she worked as an Associate Art Director at AGENCY.COM in New York City, as a Graphic Designer at Tripod, Inc. in Williamstown, MA, and as an Interface Designer at Green Room Productions in Sausalito, CA. Her work has been honored internationally in publications, exhibits, and competitions.

Maya received her Master in Fine Arts in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Critical Theory from Cornell University.

Maya organized and curated Outside In: An International Poster Exhibit and is in Adversary: A Traveling Exhibition (of) Contesting Graphic Design, both of which have been travelling across the US. In addition to teaching and her all-media design practice, Maya curates design exhibits, writes about design, particularly its intersection with architecture and urban planning, and has lectured nationally on issues pertaining to design theory and criticism.
